We Can’t Teach What We Don’t Know: White Teachers, Multiracial Schools, by Gary Howard, articulates the necessity for White teachers to develop cultural competence in diverse schooling contexts. He states, “(1) our teacher force is mostly White, (2) our student population is highly diverse and growing in children of color, and (3) race-based disparities continue to exist in almost every dimension of educational outcomes.”
